Tuesday’s American League Capsules

NEW YORK(AP) —Mark Teixeira(notes) hit a three-run homer and Curtis Granderson(notes) and Nick Swisher(notes) also went deep for the Yankees, who beat up on Oakland again in a 9-3 win over the Athletics on Tuesday night.
The victory moved the Yankees back into sole possession of first place. Tampa Bay and New York had spent eight days tied atop the AL East.
The Yankees, who came back from a three-run deficit to win 11-5 the night before, jumped on A’s starter Vin Mazzaro(notes) right away. Brett Gardner(notes) led off the first with a nfl jerseys

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Jose Bautista(notes) hit his major league-leading 43rd homer during a 10-run sixth inning and the Blue Jays beat the Rays.
Tampa Bay lost for only the fifth time in 17 games but fell a game behind the first-place New York Yankees in the AL East. The Rays and Yankees, who beat Oakland 9-3, had been tied atop the division for the previous eight days.
Bautista capped the sixth-inning outburst with a three-run shot off reliever Lance Cormier(notes) that put the Blue Jays up 11-3. It was the most runs scored in one inning by Toronto since an 11-run sixth on July 25, 2007, at Minnesota.
White Sox 4, Indians 3=
CLEVELAND (AP) - With Manny Ramirez(notes) standing in the on-deck circle ready to pinch-hit, A.J. Pierzynski(notes) hit a three-run homer off Frank Herrmann(notes) in the ninth inning to lift the White Sox to a win over the Indians.
Ramirez, who arrived earlier in the day to help Chicago’s playoff push, was poised to make his White Sox debut and bat for Brent Lillibridge(notes) before Pierzynski came through.
He drove an 0-1 pitch over the wall in right field, and as he rounded the bases, Ramirez retreated to Chicago’s dugout, where the fun-loving slugger celebrated his new teammate’s heroics by high-fiving the rest of the White Sox as if he was the one who had homered.
Orioles 5, Red Sox 2=
BALTIMORE (AP) - Rookie Brian Matusz(notes) won his third consecutive start, and the Orioles beat Josh Beckett(notes) and the fading Red Sox to cap a memorable first month under manager Buck Showalter.
Luke Scott(notes) hit his career-high 26th homer, had two RBIs and scored twice to help the Orioles extend their winning streak to four. Baltimore went 17-11 in August, 17-10 with Showalter in the dugout.
The Orioles last had a winning August in 1997 - the most recent season in which they finished above .500.

Twins 4, Tigers 3=
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Delmon Young(notes) had two hits, including the go-ahead single in the seventh, to lift the Twins to a win over the Tigers.
Young’s big hit came after Tigers reliever Phil Coke(notes) (7-4) hit two batters to load the bases and Ryan Perry(notes) walked in the tying run.
Danny Valencia(notes) had three hits and an RBI and Brian Duensing(notes) gave up three unearned runs on nine hits in 6 2-3 innings for the Twins, who stayed four games ahead of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central.
Jhonny Peralta(notes) had three hits and an RBI for the Tigers, but struck out with the tying run at third base to end the game.
Matt Guerrier(notes) (3-7) picked up the win and Matt Capps(notes) got his seventh save since being acquired from Washington and 33rd on the season.
Royals 10, Rangers 9=
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Willie Bloomquist(notes) scored on Alexi Ogando’s(notes) wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and Alex Gordon(notes) drove in three runs as the Royals beat the Rangers.
Wilson Betemit(notes) opened the ninth with a double and Bloomquist pinch-ran for him. Brayan Pena(notes) walked with one out. Bloomquist stole third with one out and scored on Ogando’s wild pitch with Yuniesky Betancourt(notes) at the plate.
Jakim Soria (1-2) picked up the victory, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth. Rangers left-hander Darren Oliver(notes) (1-2), who started the ninth, took the loss and has allowed 11 earned runs in 10 innings in his past 13 outings.
Mariners 3, Angels 1=
SEATTLE (AP) - Adam Moore’s(notes) broken-bat RBI single highlighted a three-run rally in the eighth inning to give the Mariners a victory over the Angels.
The Mariners, trailing 1-0, faced reliever Kevin Jepsen(notes) (2-4), who took over for starter Dan Haren(notes). Jepsen walked Russell Branyan(notes) with one out. Matt Tuiasosopo(notes) pinch ran for him.
Jose Lopez(notes) followed with a single and Casey Kotchman(notes) walked. Michael Saunders(notes) hit a sac-fly to right to score Tuiasosopo. Moore followed with his looping game-winner just over the reach of second baseman Howard Kendrick.

Brandon League(notes) (9-6), who took over for starter Felix Hernandez(notes) in the eighth, earned the victory. David Aardsma(notes) worked the ninth to pick up his 26th save in 31 opportunities.
