Jacksonville State upsets Ole Miss in double OT

Mississippi is the first major upset victim of the college football season, losing to Division I-AA Jacksonville State, 49-48 in double overtime Saturday.

"The coaches called a shovel pass (on the 2-point play)," Middleton said. "I don't even know if (Blanchard) saw me, but I knew if I could catch it I was deep enough in the end zone to score.
"This means everything."

overtime by outscoring Ole Miss 21-3 in the fourth quarter. The Gamecocks tied the game with 39 seconds remaining in the period.
"Without a doubt, it's the worst loss of my career," Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt told reporters after the game.
The loss spoiled the debut of new Rebels quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who Friday won an eligibility appeal from the NCAA after transferring from Oregon. Masoli completed seven of 10 passes for 109 yards and was Ole Miss's QB for both OT periods.

Jacksonville State's victory ended the OVC's 50-game losing streak against Division I-A teams dating to 2004.
