Bolton appeal against Cahill's Arsenal dismissal

Bolton Wanderers have appealed against the red card shown to Gary Cahill in Saturday's game against Arsenal on the basis of "wrongful dismissal."

Referee Stuart Attwell did not punish the Arsenal player but he did take a dim view of Cahill's challenge on Arsenal's Moroccan striker after 64 minutes.

conference: "Lee was very close to the penalty box. It should have been a free kick, and it is not given. From the resulting pass Gary Cahill went into the back of the lad and fouled him. I don't think it merited a red."
Despite running the risk of the Football Association extending his three-match ban on the grounds of a "frivolous appeal", Bolton have asked the governing body to take another look at the incident.

wrongful dismissal from Bolton Wanderers' defender Gary Cahill," read an FA statement. "Cahill was shown a red card during Bolton's match against Arsenal on 11 September. A Regulatory Commission will consider the claim on Tuesday 14 September."
