USA’s Spector has Celtics connection

ROODEPOORT, South Africa – Jonathan Spector, a defender on the U.S. World Cup team, has not had much of a chance to watch the NBA Finals, what with all his team requirements and the fact the games don’t come on until about 2 a.m.
He has missed much of nfl jerseys the action despite the fact he has a strong connection to Boston: Spector’s grandfather was the first player ever signed by the Celtics.
Art Spector, who starred as a 6-foot-4 forward at Villanova, signed with Boston in 1946 and played five seasons with the team, averaging 5.0 points a game. He retired in 1950.
“When I can I’ll try and watch it,” Spector said of the Los Angeles Lakers-Boston Celtics series after the United States beat Australia 3-1 on Saturday.
A few days before the team left for South Africa, Hall of nfl jersey shop Fame center Bill Russell came to watch practice and to address the team. Spector said he approached Russell after the talk and asked if he remembered his grandfather. Russell said he recalled meeting Spector, but by the time he joined the Celtics in 1956, Spector was long out of the game.
Art Spector died in 1987, when the 24-year-old Jonathan Spector was a year old.
“I guess I have a little bit of Celtics history,” said Spector, who has had a professional career of nfl throwback jerseys his own playing in England for Manchester United, Charlton Athletic and West Ham United.
