Allegri considers giving Ronaldinho a break

THE HAGUE (AFP) - AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri could rest Brazilian star Ronaldinho for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Ajax in Amsterdam.
Milan have started the group well with a 2-0 victory over Auxerre in nfl jerseys
their opener while Ajax lost by the same score away to Real Madrid.
"I'm thinking about changing something for (Tuesday's) game," said Allegri.
"Up until now, Ronaldinho has played a lot and if he doesn't play I could also change the system.
"I'm a big fan of Ajax's system of play, it's a pleasure to watch this team playing now like they did in the past during which they made a difference and changed the mentality of European football.
"Tomorrow (Tuesday) will be my first away match in the Champions League and it's against a big team so I'll be a little emotional, at the beginning at least."
One of the changes Allegri could make would be to bring Dutch veteran Clarence Seedorf into the team to play against his former employers.
That would mean dropping one of the forwards and playing the 34-year-old between attack and midfield.
Seedorf believes that his team is starting to gel despite a difficult beginning Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
to the season which saw them win only two of their first five league games.
"We have many new players but we're trying to build something important, the aim is to win," he said.Cowboys jersey

"The Champions League is a tournament for great teams and both ourselves and Ajax are amongst those.
"We'll both be trying to win tomorrow. I saw Ajax's game in Madrid, they lost but watch out because they're better than what they showed in that match in which, amongst others, they were missing (Luis) Suarez.
"We're not afraid of Ajax but we respect them."
Ajax coach Martin Jol believes his team will face the best striker in the world - Zlatan Ibrahimovic - but wants his team to avoid being star-struck, as he said they were against Real.
"In Madrid we were enjoying the experience of it all too much before the match, when it should be after the match, and we forgot to play football because of that," he said.
"The lesson we learned is that you play against a lot of quality. AC Milan also have that quality.
"With players like Ronaldinho, Zlatan (Ibrahimovic), Robinho and Pato (who is injured and will miss thre game) you have to find a solution for that in defence.
"But up front, where we play at least five attacking players, we will also have to play the way we normally do at home.
"They usually play 4-3-3. Zlatan is the best striker in the world in my oMinnesota Vikings jersey
pinion, he has shown that already in almost every league.
"Robinho is unpredictable and can do something phenomenal and when it's Ronaldinho's day…
"So I think they are no weaker then Real Madrid. They have a new coach, their results are usually good, and when those are good, the goals often will follow. I think that Milan, potentially, are one of the best teams in Europe."

AP erupts as Vikings dominate Lions

Cowboys jersey
That's exactly where Adrian Peterson likes it.
With Favre again struggling to move the ball through the air, Peterson rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings to a 24-10 victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Peterson bounced off cheap nfl jerseys
Lions tacklers all day and ripped off an 80-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that put the game out of reach, delivering the Vikings (1-2) their first victory of a season that began with Super Bowl aspirations.
''That's really just the mentality that I have,'' Peterson said. ''When things aren't really going well, I want to get the guys going up front and establish the run game. We were pretty productive.''
After showing plenty of feistiness in losses to Chicago and Philadelphia, the Lions (0-3) lost their 22nd straight road game — the third longest streak in NFL history - and 13th in a row at the Metrodome.
Detroit's dynamic rookie Jahvid Best was held to seven carries for 26 yards and left the game in the third quarter with a right big toe injury. Coach Jim Schwartz said Best, who racked up 232 total yards last week, aggravated a Week 1 injury.
Subbing for the injured Matthew Stafford, Shaun Hill was 29 of 43 for 237 yards and a TD, but threw two interceptions in the end zone as the Lions tried to rally late.
''Shaun battled his way through it, but when it's one-dimensional you're going to get sacks and you're going to get interceptions because you don't have a run game,'' Schwartz said.
Favre was 23 of 34 for 201 yards with one touchdown and two more interceptions - one that was tipped - on another shaky afternoon for the Vikings passing game.
So the Vikings turned to the man who carried the offense during his first two seasons in the league. Call it Vikings, B.F. — Before Favre.
''There was definitely a sense of urgency,'' Peterson said. ''Starting 0-2 was not the plan. Going into the bye week, guys had the mentality that it was a home game and we've got to come out and get this win.''
Peterson ran over, around and through the Lions defense in his biggest day since rushing for 180 yards in the season opener last year.
''Especially right now with how we're struggling in the passing game, that sure was nice Minnesota Vikings jersey
to see. ... That takes a lot of pressure off of me and the passing game,'' Favre said.
Peterson rushed for nearly 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns last season, but some followers called it a ''down year'' for a player who has set the bar so high for himself. His longest run of the year was a 64-yarder in the opener, but the rest of his season lacked that signature Peterson flair.
It returned in a hurry in the third quarter when Peterson burst through a tiny crack, stiff-armed safety C.C. Brown and cut to the right before turning on the jets for the longest run of his career to give Minnesota a 24-10 lead.
''I was able to press it, cut back and bounce it outside,'' Peterson said. ''And it was off to the races.''
The Lions came into the game tied for the NFL lead in sacks and determined to show everyone that they were no longer the NFC North doormats they have been for most of this decade.
Corey Williams read a screen play beautifully, slicing through a hole to undercut running back Toby Gerhart and intercept Favre's pass. He rumbled 27 yards to the Vikings 12, setting up Hill's TD pass to Tony Scheffler for a 7-0 lead.
The Lions only sacked Favre once, but they battered the 40-year-old throughout the game and had him grabbing his right shoulder in pain in the second quarter. But penalties nullified two turnovers by Favre - one a fumble on a sack and the other an interception - and led to 10 Minnesota points.
A fumble by Lions punt returner Stefan Logan set up the Vikings' first touchdown, a play-action pass from Favre to Percy Harvin, who made an incredible diving catch in the end zone.
''We need to develop more of an instinct to finish. We started off 7-0 and then we turned the ball over on a punt and let them right back in the game,'' Schwartz said. ''That's stuff that we need to do a better job of. When we get them down early, we need to put the foot to the floor and stretch out the lead rather than giving it back to them.''
Jason Hanson missed a 44-yard field goal and the Vikings took the lead for good with a 10-play Indianapolis Colts jersey
drive that Peterson finished with a punishing 6-yard run. He flattened defensive back Jonathan Wade at the end of the run for a 14-7 lead.
''He never ceases to amaze you,'' coach Brad Childress said.

3-Point Plan Short Memory Critical For Buehler

IRVING, Texas - In examining what the Cowboys must improve to climb out of a 0-2 hole, entire units are typically generalized. The offense must score more than one offensive touchdown per game, or the defense must create turnovers, or the special team’s coverage must limit opponents' starting field position.
Though he has a snapper and a holder, David Buehler essentially stands alone in the court of nfl throwback jerseys
public opinion. NFL kickers toil in a harsh, lonely spotlight when the ball lands outside the uprights.
He is now 2-for-4 in his first two NFL games as a full-time place-kicker, missing a critical field goal attempt in each of the Cowboys' two losses. In both situations - a 34-yarder against the Washington Redskins, and a 44-yarder against the Chicago Bears - the kick would've tied the game.
Sunday at Houston, Buehler gets another chance to prove he can stabilize a position of confounding inconsistency over the past several seasons. Mores than ever, he'll have to utilize kicking consultant Chris Bonior’s "one-for-one" approach that helped him earn the job at the end of preseason:
Good or bad, forget the last kick.
"He has always been real good about coming back for the next one," said Bonior, who has helped transform Buehler from a rookie kickoff specialist and NFL touchback leader (29) to a more polished field goal kicker this off-season. "He's done that in practice throughout the off-season and training camp, whether it is a poor kick or whatever, he's always done a good job of coming back. You just don't want to have to do that every game."
Buehler did make a 48-yarder later in the fourth quarter last Sunday, three critical points that might have saved a kicking search this week. He was virtually perfect in five weeks of daily public training camp practices except for one noticeably erratic day, when he missed three of seven attempts Aug. 19 in Oxnard, Calif.
"I had an off day," Buehler said then. "Luckily I have a game to redeem myself."
He didn't have an attempt in either of the next two preseason games, but finally got four tries in the finale against the Miami Dolphins. He made all four, including the game-winner from 31 yards.
That mental makeup, owner Jerry Jones says, along with his powerful leg, tell him instinctively to stay patient with the 23-year-old - even as the team stares down the muzzle of a 0-3 start.
"He's hitting the ball well, he's got a strong leg," Jones said Tuesday on his weekly San Diego Chargers jersey
radio show. "We know what the alternatives are. All of those don't add up to making any type of change there. We've got a chance to have what we think is a really fine kicker and we wanted to see this thing through."
In analyzing Buehler's two misses, Bonior said he appeared to hurry his delivery on the 34-yarder against Washington. Sunday, on the 44-yarder that sailed wide left, Bonior said Buehler "just got around on it too much, didn't strike it well."
"That stuff you always work on," he said. "You always work on ball strike, you always work on tempo, and those things are very important."
Phillips said a change isn't feasible in part because the top free-agent kickers (perhaps he meant Kris Brown, Matt Stover) aren't reliable from 40 yards and beyond. Buehler's ability to drive long distances is an asset; Bonior has worked on shaping his accuracy, long and short. Steelers jersey

The Cowboys can't afford a repeat of past seasons. In 2006, high-priced Mike Vanderjagt - then the most accurate kicker of all time - didn't last past Thanksgiving. Last year, Nick Folk was released in December after missing seven of his previous 11 kicks, seemingly never fully recovered from off-season hip surgery. His league-high 10 misses contributed heavily to the Cowboys' 24th overall ranking in red zone efficiency.
The games are usually too close. Last year, eight of the Cowboys' 16 games were decided by a touchdown or less.
The Cowboys gave Folk every chance until they simply couldn't rely on him any longer. Clearly, they feel it's too early to give up on Buehler.
"I look at him this last game kind of like our team," Phillips said. "He was two out of Chicago Bears jersey
three (Sunday), and that's about where we were. Two out of three plays we were real good, but that third play …
"The percentages over 40 yards are not going to be great. I'd like for him to make them all. I've been through it with kickers before, and I think once … you got to let them, you got to give them a chance before you say, 'Hey, you can't do it at all.'"

Doc Talk: Week 3 injury report analysis

Indianapolis Colts jersey
To learn about the ins-and-outs of hamstring and groin strains and the status of key players affected by these injuries see the video above. Below I give my Jock-to-Doc analysis on the key players who are hurt and how their performances will affected.

Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints
Falcons RB Michael Turner (groin strain)

Jock-to-Doc take: Turner left Sunday's blowout win over the football jerseys
Arizona Cardinals with a groin strain. Coach Mike Smith said the move was precautionary and that he could have returned to the game. Given Jason Selling’s performance obviously that was not required. Turner should play and be effective. Going against the Saints' 19th-ranked run defense, I expect him to put up some good numbers this week. The question remains whether this injury will heal completely or become chronic, making Turner a regular on the weekly injury report.

Health Rating: Michael Turner @ 85%

Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots
Patriots RB Fred Taylor (toe) and WR Julian Edelman (foot)

Jock-to-Doc take: Taylor and Edelman have been limited all week in practice. Taylor has a toe injury that occurred in the season opener. These toe injuries generally don't heal completely until the off-season so we can expect to see Taylor on the injury list all year. Taylor ran for only 11 yards on five carries in Week 2 but showed a burst during a 38-yard run that was negated by a penalty.

Edelman missed the final three games of the preseason and the season opener. But in Week 2, he finally got his chance to play and he had one catch for six yards and two punt returns for 26 yards. Not too exciting but with Tom Brady as your quarterback those numbers could grow quickly as the season progresses.

Health Ratings: Fred Taylor @ 90%; Julian Edelman @ 80%

Cincinnati Bengalis at Carolina Panthers
Bengalis WR Terrell Owens (stiff back); Panthers WR Steve Smith (thigh)

Jock-to-Doc take: Owens and Smith were limited in practice this week. Both are expected to play and both should not be hampered significantly by their injuries. While Owens has a partner in Chad Chicano, Smith is the lone stud of the Carolina receiving corps. He absolutely crucial to the success of rookie quarterbacks Jimmy Clausen this week. Without Smith, Clausen will be hard pressed to find open receivers. In addition to a sore thigh, Smith is also suffering from a wrist injury.

Health Rating: Terrell Owens @ 99%; Steve Smith @ 75%

Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
Browns QB Jake Welcome (sprained ankle); Ravens FB Leroy McClain (shoulder)

Jock-to-Doc take: The Browns are the walking wounded this week with eight starters led by Welcome limited in their preparation. Welcome will almost certainly miss this week's game against Baltimore. The Browns have been intentionally cryptic in describing his ankle injury and the bigger question is Saints jersey
how many more games will the starting quarterback miss.

McClain has been nursing a shoulder injury and was limited Wednesday but returned to full go on Thursday. His fantasy numbers are not spectacular but both Ray Rice and Joe Flacon would have diminished output if McClain is not firing on all cylinders.

Health Rating: Jack Welcome @ 0%; Leroy McClain @ 80%

Dallas Cowboys at Houston Texans
Cowboys WR Dees Bryant (ribs); Texans WR Andre Johnson (sprained ankle)

Jock-to-Doc take: Bryant injured his ribs against the Washington Redskins two weeks ago and was in full pads Thursday. Expect him to be full go and unhindered by the nagging injury. Arguably the league's best wide receiver, Johnson has what is being billed as a "mild ankle sprain". He did not practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday. Johnson says he expects to play and this physical specimen would not step on the field if he didn't feel he could perform at his best.

Health Rating: Dees Bryant @ 95%; Andre Johnson @ 80%

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings
Lions QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder); Vikings WR Percy Hardin (migraines/hip)

Jock-to-Doc take: Stafford continues to recover from a Grade 2 right (throwing) shoulder separation. He said he is feeling much better but has not tried to throw yet. Shaun Hill has been named the starter for the tilt against the Vikings. Brett Fare continues to battle through his ankle pain and has been full participation in practice all week. Fare is far more concerned about the health of his receiving corps than his own. Hardin missed practice Wednesday with another migraine but was back on the field Thursday running routes but his hip injury is a bigger concern. With Sidney Rice sidelined for at least another month after hip surgery, the doomsday scenario for Fare and the Vikings is for Hardin to also miss significant chunks of time because of his continued hip pain.

Health Rating: Matthew Stafford @ 20%; Percy Hardin @ 75%

Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos
Colts RB Joseph Addax (knee); Broncos CB Champ Bailey (foot)

Jock-to-Doc take: You can learn more about Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon by viewing my video above. Addax missed practice Wednesday with a knee injury and was limited on Thursday but did suit up. It is a good sign to see him on the practice field and we can expect to see him play this weekend. The questions are will he be effective and can he last the entire game? Bailey was held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. With Peyton Manning coming to town, the thought of facing the Colts' potent passing attack without their best cover man has to have everyone in Denver concerned. Bailey looks to be a game-time decision.

Health Rating: Joseph Addax @ 85%; Champ Bailey @ 65%

Oakland Raiders at Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals RB Chris "Beanie" Wells (knee)

Jock-to-Doc take: Wells has practiced this week in a limited fashion despite recovering San Diego Chargers jersey
from a knee injury. This is good news as it doesn't appear that any setbacks have occurred. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that barring issues Friday, he fully expects Wells to play. See my video above for news on Cardinals wide receiver Early Doucette.

24 sep 10 TO, Ochocinco haven’t hit their stride

Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

CINCINNATI (AP)—Through two games, the Bengals’ pass-catching duo has been anything but dynamic.
Chad Ochocinco(notes) and Terrell Owens(notes) dubbed themselves Batman and Robin at the start of training camp. They expected to play like superheroes on the field.
Mere mortals so far.
The Bengals (1-1) failed to score a touchdown in their 15-10 win over football jersey
Baltimore on Sunday, a game that left the receivers frustrated. Cincinnati won the AFC North last season by relying on its defense and a run-oriented offense, a grind-it-out approach that worked again against one of the league’s best defenses.
Doesn’t do much for those receiving stats.
“From a skill perspective, we want to really throw the ball a little bit more,” Owens said. “There were some opportunities out there that we missed. That’s where—as Robin says—the frustration comes from. I can definitely feel for him in that situation.
“From an offense’s standpoint, we played mediocre. We definitely could have played better.”
When the Bengals signed Owens to a one-year, $2 million deal at the start of training camp, Ochocinco called the Bengals receiving corps a dream team. They looked good during their limited chances in the preseason. When the season started, things changed.
Ochocinco had a 12-catch game against New England, but most of them came in the second half when the Bengals were already down 30-3. When it mattered, he and TO were not much of a factor in a 38-24 loss.
The big second half gave Ochocinco a boost in the league rankings. He’s second in the NFL with 203 yards on 16 catches. Owens is 42nd with 110 yards on 10 catches. They’ve combined for one touchdown. The passing game ranks eighth in the league—again, mainly because of the second half against a New England defense that had the game in hand.
Certainly not comic book stuff.
“Truthfully, it’s not flowing the way we would like it to flow,” Ochocinco said. “Not near. (TO) continues to remind me when I get frustrated in practice that it’s only week two. It’s really early. As the season goes along, we’re going to get it together.”
Their quarterback also is advising patience.
Carson Palmer(notes) had two chances to connect with the duo in the end zone against Baltimore. New Orleans Saints jersey
Ochocinco broke free when a defensive back tripped, but Palmer had to hurry his throw because he was about to get hit.
Also, Owens outjumped cornerback Fabian Washington(notes) in the end zone for a high throw. Washington appeared to grab Owens’ arm as the ball arrived, resulting in an incompletion.
Palmer didn’t take many chances, avoiding a turnover against a defense that hasn’t allowed a touchdown this season. Ochocinco had four catches for 44 yards. Owens had three for 57.
“We’d all love to put up huge numbers, but more than huge numbers we love to win,” Palmer said Wednesday. “Playing against that style of defense, no one is going to go off for 180 yards.
“They want the ball in their hands and I want the ball in their hands, too. I’m going to do what I can without jeopardizing our team or putting our defense in a difficult situation. There’s going to be highs and lows. They’re going to have those big-number games probably not week-in and week-out, but one is going to have a big-number game on a consistent basis.”
The Bengals play at Carolina (0-2) on Sunday.
Part of the problem is that Palmer is still getting to know Owens as a receiver. Owens began learning the playbook at the start of training camp, and the passer-receiver relationship is still in its formative stages.
“The separation he can create (with a defensive back), the speed with which he carries his routes is amazing,” Palmer said. “We’ve been working together for a little while now and getting closer. Pretty soon we’re going to be clicking just like Chad and I have been.”
Owens and Palmer have been doing extra work around practice to get to know each other a little better. They talk frequently about how they can get on the same wavelength.
“It’s not like I am a hard target to throw to,” Owens said. “I think he has been used to a certain style of receiver over a number of years, throwing to Chad and T.J. (Houshmandzadeh). I was just making a joke to him the other day: I am TO, not TJ. It’s one of those things I understand. We both want to be successful. It irks both of Chargers jersey
us when we misconnect on certain routes and things like that.”
For now, Ochocinco has toned down the preseason bluster about making teams reach for headache remedies whenever they have to face the duo.
“Maybe week four, week five,” Ochocinco said. “When we as a team are rolling, it should get scary.”

Panthers 4, Hurricanes 1

Minnesota Vikings jersey
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—Erik Gudbranson(notes) had a goal and an assist, and the Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 on Tuesday night in the preseason opener for both teams.
Gudbranson, Mike Santorelli(notes) and Scott Timmins(notes) scored against Carolina starter Cam Ward(notes) on three straight shots in a span of 1 minute, 54 seconds in the first period. That put Florida ahead 3-0 less than 6 minutes into the game.
Nathan Paetsch(notes) also scored and Joe Callahan(notes) and football jerseys
Evgeny Dadonov(notes) had two assists apiece for the Panthers.
Anton Babchuk(notes) scored a short-handed goal for the Hurricanes.
Ward made 17 saves in 32 minutes before giving way to Justin Pogge(notes), who Steelers jersey
made three stops the rest of the way. Florida’s Scott Clemmensen(notes) stopped 16 shots in 32 minutes and was relieved by Jacob Markstrom(notes), who made the final 17 saves.
TORONTO (AP)—Nick Foligno(notes) bounced back from a knee injury with a goal, and Robin Lehner(notes) made 24 saves in the Ottawa Senators’ 5-0 preseason win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.
Foligno was one of the few regular NHL players who dressed on a night in which both teams gave several of their prospects a chance to see action.
Jesse Winchester(notes), Corey Locke(notes), Chris Neil(notes) and Chris Kelly(notes) had the other goals for Ottawa.
The 19-year-old Lehner was perfect in place of Vikings jersey
teammate Mike Brodeur(notes), who sat out because of food poisoning.

Ghana's John Mensah & Asamoah Gyan To Be Honoured At London Awards For World Cup Heroics

Minnesota Vikings jersey
The Ghana team who lit up the 2010 World Cup with their run to the quarter-finals are to be honoured at a London awards ceremony next month.
The Black Stars became only the third African team in nfl jerseys
World Cup history to advance to the quarter-finals of the showpiece event, but were knocked out on penalties by Uruguay.
They won a host of new admirers in South Africa for their committed performances, team spirit and positive attitude, which stood in marked contrast to teams such as England, France and Italy, who endured miserable World Cups.
Now the four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners are set to be honoured for their achievement at the Ghana UK Based Achievement [GUBA] awards ceremony in London on October 24 at the Porchester Hall.
Amongst the attendees at the event will be Ghana captain John San Francisco 49ers jersey
Mensah, who is currently on loan at Sunderland from Lyon, and Asamoah Gyan, who recently also joined the North East club and scored three goals at the 2010 World Cup.
Fulham's John Painstil and Chelsea's Michael Essien - who missed out on the World Cup through injury - have also confirmed their attendance.
Mensah said: "This is great news It makes us as a team feel appreciated for what we do for our nation, as we don’t often get awards in Ghana.
"It’s an honour to hear and see how encouraging the GUBA Awards have been towards us."
Television presenter Dentaa Afriyie-Sumpa, who is the Buffalo Bills jersey
mastermind behind the awards ceremony, said: "The Ghana Black Stars deserve recognition for marking Ghana on the global map. During the World Cup the team were not just supported by Africans; they had support from around the world.
"Their performance encouraged so much love and unity, and that doesn’t happen often enough."

UEFA to discuss allocation of Euro 2012 matches

Minnesota Vikings jersey
BERNE, Sept 21 (Reuters) - European soccer’s governing body UEFA will discuss for the first time next month which cities will host the quarter-finals and semi-finals at Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
The executive committee meeting in Minsk on Oct. 4 will also cheap nfl jerseys
discuss whether all eight chosen venue cities have made enough progress to keep their status as hosts and talk about the allocation of matches for the group stage.
Preparations for the tournament have been plagued by delays in the buildings of stadiums, roads and hotels, especially in Ukraine.
“So far, all that has been decided is that Warsaw will host the opening match and Kiev is scheduled to host the final,” UEFA spokesman Rob Faulkner said.
Faulkner said a final decision on the schedule—and with it the Chicago Bears jersey
confirmation of which cities will be included—could be announced a few days afterwards in one of the host countries, although it could take longer.
Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw and Gdansk in Poland and Kiev, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk in Ukraine are due to host matches at the 16-team tournament.
Last year, UEFA became so frustrated with progress in Ukraine that it refused to confirm the four cities as venues, instead giving the country six months to get work back on schedule.
In December, UEFA gave Ukraine the green light, saying all four cities would host matches and confirmed that the final would be in Kiev.
Despite this, more doubts surfaced this year with Ukraine again being told to speed up work. However, in August UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino said he was confident work would be completed on time.
ROME, Sept 21 (Reuters) - The Serie A players’ strike for this New Orleans Saints jersey
weekend’s matches has been postponed, a spokesperson for the Italian soccer federation said on Tuesday.
The Italian players’ union had called the strike in a dispute over a collective contract with the league but lengthy talks between the parties has led to the postponement.

Delhomme out for Browns with ankle injury

Minnesota Vikings jersey
Browns backup quarterback Seneca Wallace is starting Cleveland's home opener against Kansas City in place of Jake Delhomme.
Delhomme injured his right ankle in last week's loss at nfl jerseys
Tampa Bay and missed practice this week. He is inactive Sunday, making rookie Colt McCoy the No. 2 quarterback against the Chiefs.
The more mobile Wallace, who spent seven seasons with Seattle, is making his 15th career start. He went 5-9 as a starter for the Seahawks.
Delhomme threw two interceptions, including a game-swinging one at the end of the first half, in his debut with Cleveland last week. The Browns signed him as a free agent in March.
The most notable inactive player for the Chiefs is defensive end Tyson Jackson, who had six tackles in Monday night's upset of San Diego. Former Browns end Shaun Smith is starting for Kansas City.
Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers was inactive Sunday for a game against the AFBears jersey
C North rival Baltimore Ravens because of an injured foot.
Brandon Johnson started at his outside linebacker spot, the only change to the Bengals' starting lineups.
Ravens tight end Todd Heap and linebacker Ray Lewis were in the starting lineup. Both were listed as questionable Friday - Heap with a sore shoulder, Lewis with an injured foot.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)
Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Moore has been benched in favor of rookie Jimmy Clausen in the fourth quarter against Tampa Bay.
Moore was pulled after getting sacked and losing a fumble on the previous possession with the Buccaneers leading 20-7 on Sunday.
Moore, who started despite suffering a concussion in a Week 1 loss, completed just 6 of 16 passes for 125 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Clausen starred at Notre Dame and was taken by the Panthers with the 48th overall pick after a surprising slide in the draft.
Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher has benched Vince Young to start the fourth quarter after the quarterback's third turnover of the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Young was sacked and stripped of the ball after Chris Johnson missed a block, Bills jersey
and the quarterback was slammed awkwardly to the ground by Steelers linebacker James Harrison. Young walked off the field to the sideline to boos.
Collins, who started the first six games last season before being benched for Young, warmed up. He went on the field for Tennessee's first series of the fourth quarter with the Titans trailing 16-3 to loud cheers from the crowd.

Bears move to 2-0, keep Cowboys winless

Minnesota Vikings jersey
Cutler threw three touchdown passes and Romo wasn't able to respond, lifting the Chicago Bears to a 27-20 victory Sunday.
The Bears come away 2-0 for the first cheap nfl jerseys
time since their Super Bowl season in 2006.
Dallas fell to 0-2 for the first time since 2001, when Quincy Carter took over for the retired Troy Aikman at quarterback. Cowboys loyalists will remember the 1993 season starting 0-2 and ending with a Super Bowl championship, but that club got Emmitt Smith back from a contract holdout to start its rally. This club can only look forward to tumult as owner Jerry Jones isn't likely to tolerate such a sloppy start to a season he expected to end in the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium.
Led by linebackers DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer, the Cowboys came out ready to take control with their defense. Cutler went to the sideline after his third drive screaming, ''Can't we block anybody?'' Offensive coordinator Mike Martz did, with Cutler throwing for touchdowns on his next two drives. The Bears were up 20-14 at halftime and never trailed again.
Dallas wasted chance after chance.
Romo got to the 10 on the opening drive of the second half, but had to settle for a field goal. Midway through the fourth quarter, another drive ended with a field goal try that would've tied it at 20, but David Buehler badly missed to the left from 44 yards.
Cutler answered with his third touchdown pass, then Romo quickly got the Cowboys moving again only to see Roy Williams fumble fighting for yards after a catch.
Buehler ended up hitting a 48-yarder with 1:17 left, but the Bears caught his onside Dallas Cowboys jersey
kick and drained the clock.
More bad news for Dallas: Tight end Jason Witten left midway through the fourth, perhaps with a concussion, and Pro Bowl cornerback Mike Jenkins appeared to have hurt his right knee soon after.
Cutler was 21 of 29 for 277 yards. He ended up getting sacked only once, despite losing left tackle Chris Williams to a hamstring injury in the first quarter. He didn't have any interceptions, and had a knack for making plays at the right time.
Once Martz told him to make one-step dropbacks, Cutler shredded a blitz by hitting Greg Olsen in a vacated part of the field for a 39-yard touchdown. The next series, he hit a 59-yarder to Johnny Knox on third-and-15, then found Devin Hester in the corner of the end zone for another touchdown.
Both those drives came right after Dallas touchdowns. They also came against a defense that hadn't allowed a touchdown in its last three regular-season games.
He iced the game on a short throw to Hester that the speedster turned into a 38-yard gain. Cutler followed with a 3-yard TD lob to Matt Forte.
Knox caught four passes for 86 yards. Hester, who had just one catch on the opening drive last week, caught four passes for 77 yards.
Romo was 34 of 51 for 374 yards and a touchdown. He had two interceptions, both bouncing off usually sure-handed receivers. He also had more off-target throws than usual.
Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett gave up on the run early, despite the game being close. It also was a surprise considering the return of injured linemen Marc Colombo and Kyle Kosier. They finished with 36 yards on 20 carries. Marion Barber had five rushes for 27 yards in the first quarter, then four for 4 yards the rest of Chargers jersey
the game. Felix Jones gained 7 yards on seven carries.
Dallas also got a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown from rookie Dez Bryant.
Miles Austin catch 10 passes for 142 yards. Williams had four catches for 53 yards.

Chiefs 16, Browns 14

Minnesota Vikings jersey
Moments before the game's climactic play, Kansas City quarterback Matt Cassel looked around the huddle and saw only confidence in the eyes of his excited teammates.
These Chiefs believe.
Two wins in one week has changed them.
Brandon Flowers returned an interception for football jersey
a touchdown, Ryan Succop kicked three field goals and Kansas City running back Thomas Jones vaulted for a late first down on a fourth-down gamble by coach Todd Haley, giving the Chiefs a 16-14 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
A feeble four-win squad last season, the Chiefs who also knocked off AFC West champion San Diego on Monday night, are 2-0 for the first time since 2005.
''Two-and-0 in the NFL is hard to do,'' said Jones, who catapulted over the line to pick up the game-clinching first down with two minutes left. ''But we can't rest.''
Despite a short work week to prepare for the Browns (0-2), the Chiefs were able to make just enough big plays to squeak by. Last season, Kansas City didn't get its second win until Nov. 15.
''This win says a lot,'' Haley said. ''These guys are understanding what it is all about, and that's becoming a team. I'm not saying we're there yet, but we stuck together and won. This was a huge win to come in to a hostile environment against a team that was fighting. We started the process last year and are continuing it.''
Kansas City also learned its lessons from a 41-34 loss to Cleveland last December, when Browns running back Jerome Harrison ran wild for 286 yards - third most in NFL history - and Browns return specialist Joshua Cribbs returned two kickoffs for TDs.
Harrison was held to 33 yards on 16 carries, and the Chiefs angled kicks away from Cribbs, who did burn them for a 65-yard TD reception from Seneca Wallace.
Wallace started in place of Jake Delhomme, who injured his right ankle last week in his debut for the Browns (0-2), a 17-14 loss at Tampa Bay. Wallace finished 16 of 31 for 229 yards, but one of his attempts in the second quarter was run back for a TD by Flowers.
''It was a bad, bad decision by me,'' Wallace said. ''I'll take responsibility for that.''
Clinging to their 2-point lead, the Chiefs were faced with a fourth-and-inches at the Minnesota Vikings jersey
Cleveland 36 with two minutes left. During the two-minute warning, Haley decided that instead of punting and perhaps pinning the Browns deep, he would go for it.
And when the call came in from Kansas City's sideline, Cassel and his teammates were thrilled.
''I was absolutely all for that play,'' said Cassel, who finished 16 of 28 for 176 yards and two interceptions. ''It showed a lot of respect for the guys up front and the guys who run the ball. It was a great move. You should have seen the huddle. The linemen were lighting up, the running backs were lighting up.
''It was a statement that we've got confidence to go for the win.''
Jones took the handoff from Cassel and leaped over a pile of humanity. Following a measurement that showed he picked up the first down by the nose of the ball, the Chiefs then had to endure a lengthy review by the replay officials upstairs.
When referee Carl Cheffers announced the play stood, Kansas City's sideline erupted in celebration.
''I wish it didn't go to review,'' Haley said. ''We were trying to put it away and did. That's a good feeling. Two weeks in a row that you end the game in that kneel-down situation, I'm all for that.''
The Browns weren't convinced Jones got the necessary yardage.
''The refs gave him the spot,'' end Robaire Smith. ''We've got to do a better job and not put ourselves in that situation.''
Cleveland's 0-2 start is not what coach Eric Mangini or president Mike Holmgren had in mind.
The Browns were hoping to build off the momentum of a four-game winning streak - that saved Mangini's job - to end last season, but two close losses in two weeks and too many penalties - the Browns had nine - have Cleveland already in trouble with a tough schedule ahead.
Browns kicker Phil Dawson also missed a 42-yard field-goal attempt.
''It's not good football,'' Mangini said. ''It's not smart football. It's not winning football. We can't play that way.''
The loss also tainted Cleveland's unveiling of its ring of honor. For now, the Browns' best memories remain of the past.
''There's no, 'Here we go again,''' said Cribbs. ''Not at all. There's no give up. It's going to work. It's going to click sooner or later. We have a lot of games left. We're just struggling for wins.''
NOTES: One week after setting a franchise record with 160 yards on punt returns, the Indianapolis Colts jersey
Chiefs were held to 6 on four returns. ... The Browns dropped to 1-11 in home openers since 1999. ... Browns TE Evan Moore sustained a head injury in the second half and did not return. ... The Chiefs got their first September road win since 2007. ... Browns DB Sheldon Brown made his 20th career interception, and first with Cleveland.

PREVIEW-Soccer-Flamengo go into derby with boot on other foot

Minnesota Vikings jersey
RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Champions Flamengo would like nothing more than to spoil arch-rivals Fluminense’s bid to snatch their Brazilian title.
Fluminense are bracing themselves for another potential blow when nfl jerseys
the sides clash in the big Rio “Fla-Flu” derby on Sunday (2130 GMT), having lost 2-1 at home to second-placed Corinthians in midweek.
The leaders have dropped 13 points in six matches, a worrying slump that has seen a once big advantage whittled away. They are now ahead of Corinthians only on goal difference.
“All teams wobble but we’ve paid our dues,” Flu coach Muricy Ramalho told reporters. “We stopped winning points and that’s complicated this championship.
“Now we’ve got to pull the team together again, lift the players’ morale and look again for the road to victory.”
The roles are reversed from last season when Flamengo won their Saints jersey
fourth championship while Fluminense avoided relegation on the final day in December.
RELEGATION ZONE
Flamengo boosted hopes of climbing away from danger with a 2-1 win over 10-man Gremio Prudente in midweek, their first victory in eight matches, thanks to a goal by midfielder Toro four minutes into added time.
They are 14th, five points above the relegation zone.
Toro said Sunday’s derby could be decided by which team wanted victory most.
“We know how difficult the match against Fluminense will be, they’re not leaders for nothing,” he added.
“We know the quality players they have but it’s a ‘clasico’ and that involves a lot of things, details. Whoever has a bit more heart will win.”
The match has been deprived of its big Maracana venue, closed for 2014 World Cup refurbishments, and will be played for the first time at the Enganhao.
Built for the 2007 Pan American Games, it is the home of San Diego Chargers jersey
fourth-placed Botafogo who are at home to third-placed Cruzeiro on Saturday (2130).
A victory for Cruzeiro, one point behind the leading pair, would put them top at least until the Fla-Flu derby.

Bid to stop Serie A strike gathers pace

Minnesota Vikings jersey
ROME, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Some progress has been made in an effort to stop next weekend’s Serie A strike with a new meeting set for Tuesday, the players’ union chief said on Friday.
Italian players last week announced a strike in a dispute with cheap nfl jerseys
Serie A over a collective contract which guarantees footballers’ basic rights.
“We’ve made steps forward but no huge leaps. The talks continue and we’ll meet again on Tuesday,” Sergio Campana told reporters after the third meeting between league bosses and the union.
The main sticking point over a new collective deal is Serie A’s demand that unwanted players accept a transfer to a similar status club and are willing to train away from the first team.
The union has said such a stance is illegal but Campana left the door open for a compromise.
“I don’t know,” he replied when asked if the strike could be called off. Bills jersey
“First we must listen to the players as the idea of industrial action came directly from them.”
Serie A president Maurizio Beretta has asked the players’ union to at least postpone the planned Sept. 25/26 strike to allow more time for dialogue.
Serie A’s third round of matches take place as normal this weekend with a full midweek programme then scheduled before the strike is due to begin.
LONDON, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Birmingham City’s Scotland striker James McFadden faces a long spell on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments in training, the Premier League club said on Friday.
“McFadden will see a specialist on Monday with a view to surgery and will be out of action for the foreseeable future,” the Midlands club said on their website (www.bcfc.com).
“(He) sustained cruciate ligament damage to his left knee in 49ers jersey
training today.”
The 27-year-old is a regular in the Scotland squad and featured in both of their Euro 2012 qualifying matches against Lithuania and Liechtenstein earlier this month.

Nike exec released in China soccer graft probe

Minnesota Vikings jersey
BEIJING (AFP) - A Chinese executive for US shoe giant Nike has been released from police custody after being questioned in a massive graft probe that has rocked China's football establishment, state press said Friday.
Li Tong, Nike China's marketing director, who had been held in the northeast province of football jersey
Liaoning, was released late Thursday, the leading Titan Sports Weekly reported.
Li was quizzed on Nike's sponsorship of China's professional league, and was "aiding" investigators looking into sweeping allegations of match-fixing and gambling that have led to multiple arrests and detentions, the paper said.
Nike confirmed that Li was at home, but said it was unaware of any police investigation into its sponsorship of the Super League.
"It is our understanding that Nike employee Li Tong is with his Chargers jersey
family in China," the company's China spokeswoman Jeanne Huang said in a statement emailed to AFP.
"Nike believes in ethical and fair play in sport as in business, and strongly opposes any form of sport fixing or manipulation. We have no further comment at this time."
Gambling, match-fixing, crooked referees and poor performances by the national team have made the sport the laughing stock of increasingly indifferent fans, as well as a matter of mounting state concern.
Former Chinese Football Association chief Nan Yong, his deputy Yang Yimin and another top aide were arrested early this year on bribe-taking and match-fixing charges. Scores of officials and referees have been detained.
Authorities are now investigating Nan's predecessor Xie Yalong and the former manager of the national team, Wei Shaohui, the police ministry said in a statement.
Last year, Nike signed a 15-million-dollar sponsorship deal with the Bears jersey
Super League, an agreement that reportedly could be extended for 10 years and augmented to eventually total 200 million dollars.
Investigators are looking into the relatively low price of the Nike deal, the Eastern Sports Daily said on Thursday, citing unnamed police sources.

Dolphins secondary braces for Favre

Cowboys jersey
DAVIE, Fla. (AP)—At one time, Brett Favre(notes) throwing against Vontae Davis(notes) would have been a laughable mismatch.
“I was probably a baby in diapers when he was first in the league,” Davis said.
It’s true: Davis was 3 when Favre made his NFL debut in 1991. Now, Davis is a second-year cornerback for the Miami Dolphins and part of nfl jersey
a revamped secondary bracing to face Favre and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
The pass defense was solid in a season-opening 15-10 win at Buffalo. Miami allowed only 116 yards through the air and had three sacks.
But that was against Trent Edwards(notes), who has 25 career touchdown passes. Favre has an NFL record 498.
Favre also has started 286 games, compared with 70 for Miami’s four starting defensive backs combined.
“It’s a test for us,” Davis said. “We get to see where we’re at when we go against Brett Favre.”
Where they’re at is in transition. Davis and veteran strong safety Yeremiah Bell(notes) are holdover starters, but free safety Chris Clemons and cornerback Jason Allen(notes) won jobs in training camp, and Benny Sapp(notes) is the new nickel back after being acquired last month in a trade with the Vikings.
The secondary needed a shake-up after allowing 14 touchdown passes of 20 yards or more last year, second-most in the NFL. Early returns on the changes are favorable, with Miami 1-0 for the first time since 2005.
Minnesota is 0-1, and Favre is eager to get the offense in gear after throwing for only 171 yards in a 14-9 loss at New Orleans. After wavering on retirement, he joined the Vikings only four weeks ago, and rust showed.
“There’s no doubt we have to get on the same page,” Favre said, “and we have to do it in a hurry.”
While cohesion might yet surface as an issue in the Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
Dolphins’ secondary, they had only one glaring defensive lapse at Buffalo—a blown assignment on fourth and 11 that resulted in a 31-yard scoring pass. Otherwise the Dolphins smothered the Bills’ receivers.
“We played great as a whole,” Clemons said. “Everybody was getting to the ball.”
Open-field tackling was much improved over a year ago, and the Dolphins broke up seven passes. When Allen dropped a potential interception with only the end zone in front of him, he returned to the huddle grinning.
“That’s all he could do, was laugh,” Davis said. “We joked around. We were having fun.”
Allen, a first-round pick in 2006, took a big step in shedding his label as a draft bust. He helped hold the Bills’ Lee Evans(notes) to 34 receiving yards, playing so well that Sean Smith(notes), who started all 16 games as a rookie in 2009, never got on the field.
“I probably should have played Sean,” coach Tony Sparano said. “The way it was going, we just didn’t feel like it would be a good idea to mess around with that.”
Clemons, a fifth-round draft pick in 2009, was all over the field. He made one eye-popping tackle, blitzing from the left side and racing to the other sideline to chase down C.J. Spiller(notes) for a 1-yard loss.
“As good a play as I’ve seen,” Sparano said.
“Chris was flying everywhere,” Davis said. “There were times I didn’t even know where he came from.”
The front seven applied effective pressure, although the Dolphins did allow Edwards to scramble to the outside several times. That’s a no-no against Favre.
“Those things, when you play against a guy like this, they’ll kill you,” Sparano said. “He can take those plays and turn them into touchdowns, and everybody has seen him do it time and time again.”
Otherwise, the biggest knock on the Dolphins’ defense is that the unit came up with no turnovers in the opener. That was a problem last year, when Miami’s 21 takeaways were the fifth-fewest in the league.
Favre threw only seven interceptions in 531 passes last season, Dallas Cowboys jersey
and it will be tough to wrest the ball from him. Still, the Dolphins’ DBs look forward to the challenge.
“Him being 40 years old—that’s like me playing against my father,” Davis said. “I would never have thought when I was watching Brett Favre at Green Bay that I would be lining up across from him. That’s like a dream.
“It’s also a dream to grab an interception from him.”
AP Sports Writer Jon Krawczynski in Minneapolis contributed to this report.

Odrick unsure how he broke leg

Cowboys jersey
DAVIE, Fla. (AP)—Jared Odrick(notes) is unsure how he broke his leg, and he’s unsure when he’ll be back in the lineup.
The Miami Dolphins’ rookie defensive end wore a cast Wednesday from just below his right knee to his toes. He was hurt in the season opener Sunday at Buffalo.
“It was not clear-cut what happened,” Odrick said. “There were a bunch of nfl throwback jerseys
guys in one area. I think somebody fell on it.”
On Tuesday, a person familiar with the injury said Odrick is expected to miss one or two games. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Dolphins generally don’t discuss injuries.
“We’re just taking it week to week,” said Odrick, the team’s first-round draft pick. “I’m not going to rush it, but at the same I’m not going to milk it, because I want to get back. … It’s a matter of me dealing with the pain.”
Odrick said he suffered only a slight fracture, although the cast Minnesota Vikings jersey
made the injury look worse.
“Don’t let it fool you,” he said. “It’s there for protection more than anything.”
Odrick has a metal plate in his leg because he broke it in October 2007 while playing for Penn State. That injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.
Also missing practice Wednesday were linebackers Channing Crowder(notes) (groin) and Ikaika Alama-Francis(notes) (illness). Crowder has been sidelined since Aug. 17.
Odrick’s most likely replacement Sunday at Minnesota is veteran Tony McDaniel(notes).
“The next guy has to step up,” coach Tony Sparano said. “These are the things our team is educated on. We call them body blows. Something like that happens, and it’s a little bit of a punch in the stomach, but you’ve got to keep going. We’re becoming a little bit bulletproof to those.”
Steelers QB Byron Leftwich(notes), who missed the season opener vs. Atlanta with a sprained left knee, practiced Wednesday on a limited basis.
Even if Leftwich is healthy enough to play Sunday at Tennessee, he will back up Dennis Dixon(notes), whom Indianapolis Colts jersey
head coach Mike Tomlin named the starter for this week. Dixon completed 18-of-28 passes for 236 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in Pittsburgh's 15-9 OT win vs. Atlanta.
The way we see it
If Leftwich can return this week, the Steelers' QB depth will be significantly improved. Pittsburgh is without starter QB Ben Roethlisberger(notes) for the next three games, and Leftwich gives the Steelers another solid short-term starting option at the position.

Man City linked with €50m Pastore

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Manchester City are set to take on Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign Palermo playmaker Javier Pastore, according to reports in Italy.
Pastore, dubbed 'the Argentinian Kaka', joined the Serie A side from football jersey
Huracan for around €6.25 million in July 2009 but Palermo president Maurizio Zamperini is demanding €50 million for the 21-year-old, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The fee would represent a new British Indianapolis Colts jersey
transfer record, smashing the €42.5 million City paid for Brazilian flop Robinho in 2008.
However, Pastore admits he has ambitions to play for Barcelona, not City.
"For an Argentine to play in the La Liga is normal, especially for the language," said Pastore. "Wearing the jersey of Barcelona with Lionel Messi is a dream, but it remains such. Now I think only of Palermo and the league."
Diego Maradona handed Pastore his international Minnesota Vikings jersey
debut against Canada in May 2010 and included the midfielder in his 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup.

Grant tells blundering Green to act like a man

Dallas Cowboys jersey
West Ham United manager Avram Grant has told blundering goalkeeper Robert Green to "react like a man" after his latest gaffe handed Chelsea the second goal in a 3-1 thrashing at Upton Park on Saturday.
Green, who was dropped from the nfl jersey
England team following his infamous World Cup blunder against USA, has been jeered and abused by opposing fans and now the Hammers supporters are starting to show their frustration at his lack of form.
The 30-year-old fumbled a tame shot from Didier Drogba before Matthew Upson's clearance hit Salomon Kalou and looped into the net. The hammers fans reacted by ironically cheering the next time the ball was successfully cleared.
West Ham boss Grant urged Green to Dallas Cowboys jersey
get over his error and use the negative fallout from the World Cup as motivation.
Grant said: "You can imagine his mood. But this is the life of a sportsman, of football players and managers. He's a good goalkeeper. Let's say he was not happy with his performances sometimes but this is part of the game.
"I don't know if the World Cup is on his mind. You'd need to ask him. The supporters were very tough with David Beckham after 1998 and very hard on Cristiano Ronaldo after 2006.
"Sometimes supporters Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
love you, sometimes they are against you. You need to do your job no matter what. Rob is a tough guy. He's a good goalkeeper and he needs to react like a man."

Bolton appeal against Cahill's Arsenal dismissal

Dallas Cowboys jersey

Bolton Wanderers have appealed against the red card shown to Gary Cahill in Saturday's game against Arsenal on the basis of "wrongful dismissal."
Cahill was dismissed at Emirates Stadium after challenging Marouane nfl jerseys
Chamakh from behind on the touchline. Bolton were incensed by the decision, particularly as Alex Song appeared to have fouled Lee Chung-Yong just seconds before.
Referee Stuart Attwell did not punish the Arsenal player but he did take a dim view of Cahill's challenge on Arsenal's Moroccan striker after 64 minutes.
Manager Owen Coyle said in his post-match press Indianapolis Colts jersey
conference: "Lee was very close to the penalty box. It should have been a free kick, and it is not given. From the resulting pass Gary Cahill went into the back of the lad and fouled him. I don't think it merited a red."
Despite running the risk of the Football Association extending his three-match ban on the grounds of a "frivolous appeal", Bolton have asked the governing body to take another look at the incident.
"The FA has received a claim for Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
wrongful dismissal from Bolton Wanderers' defender Gary Cahill," read an FA statement. "Cahill was shown a red card during Bolton's match against Arsenal on 11 September. A Regulatory Commission will consider the claim on Tuesday 14 September."

Sandro left at airport as Spurs head for Bremen

Steelers jersey

Tottenham midfielder Sandro was left at Stansted Airport when the squad flew out to Germany for their Champions League opener against Werder Bremen.
The Brazilian had been told by team-mate nfl jerseys
Wilson Palacios that he needed to make his way to the private terminal at the airport ahead of departure. But Sandro has not been named in the club's squad for the Champions League this season so was told he would not be allowed to board the flight.
Sandro, 21, was signed by Spurs in March in a £6.5 million deal from Internacional but he stayed with the Brazilian club to play in their Copa Libertadores campaign - the South American version of the Champions League - which they won with a 5-3 aggregate win against Mexico's Chivas Gudalajara.
There was then confusion about when he would link up with his new team-mates, with manager Harry Redknapp saying: "Have we really signed him - or is he just a myth? 'I've never seen him here. He's supposed to be here ... but not today!
"'I know he's meeting up with the Brazil squad next week to go and train in Spain. I might have to go to Barcelona for three or four days to watch him - maybe I'll take the wife!"
Sandro was looking forward to Dallas Cowboys jersey
playing in the Champions League, and was hoping to emulate his achievements with Internacional. He said: "It was a fantastic moment to win the Copa Libertadores. Internacional helped me grow as a footballer and a person from a very young age and it was a great achievement to leave on such a high.
"It was a fantastic achievement and now I hope to have many more successes with my new team. The Champions League is the best club competition in the world and I am looking forward to competing at this level. I know Spurs has everything that it takes to go further in the competition and I will do everything I can to help.
"The Premier League is the best league in the world. It is a strong league played at great pace and I think my style of play will adapt quickly to this kind of football.
"It is a pleasure to finally be here. I am extremely happy that I have been given the opportunity to join a club like Spurs. I cannot wait to get out on to the pitch and show all the fans what I can do. I am determined to make a positive impression on English football and help Spurs move onto a new level.
"Spurs are a team who are talked about a lot in Brazil. They are one of Indianapolis Colts jersey
the biggest teams not only in England but also in Europe because of their history. I watched every game last season when Spurs were going for fourth place, cheering them on and hoping they would qualify.
"When they finally did achieve qualification, it was an absolutely fantastic moment."

Ten Week 1 predictions

Vikings jersey

Week 1 has finally arrived, and here are 10 predictions to get you started.
1. The Patriots' defense won't hold up. Ty Warren(notes) and Leigh Bodden(notes) are out for the year, and several spots — particularly corner — are unsettled for New England. The Bengals were a run-first team last year, but they won't be against a Patriots defense that has trouble getting to the quarterback and is unsure of nfl throwback jerseys
how it will match up outside with its young corners. Expect Carson Palmer(notes) and Co. to put up 30-plus points.
2. Houston won't be ready. Brian Cushing(notes) has been suspended, Dunta Robinson(notes) is in Atlanta, and the Texans still don’t have a consistent pass rusher opposite Mario Williams(notes). Despite the sentiment that this is the year Houston will reach the playoffs, the defense isn’t solid enough to slow the Indy attack. Expect Peyton Manning(notes) to spread the field, splitting out Dallas Clark(notes) often, and attack a secondary that lacks ideal depth. The Colts will win going away.
3. Jacksonville will finally stretch the field. When coordinator Dirk Koetter came to Jacksonville in 2007, many assumed he would feature his trademark vertical passing attack. But the team didn’t have the receiving threats to pull that off. But now the Jags have receivers — Mike Sims-Walker and Mike Thomas — who can threaten the edges. Look for more of a downfield passing attack beginning this week against Denver, which should in turn open up running lanes for Maurice Jones-Drew.
4. The Falcons' pressure will win out. The Falcons took a slight step back last year, partly due to a defense that struggled to get pressure. Expect that to change this season, beginning Sunday at Pittsburgh. New left end Kroy Biermann will be a difference-maker opposite John Abraham, and tackle Peria Jerry — who missed most of last season — will provide a push inside. Look for the quickness and speed of Atlanta’s front four to create havoc for Dennis Dixon all afternoon.
5. Campbell will throw multiple picks. Defensive coordinators know Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell doesn't handle pressure very well, as evidenced by his stats last year in Washington (15 interceptions, 13 fumbles and 43 sacks). Look for Tennessee to use a lot of Dallas Cowboys jersey
stunts and come hard at Campbell and rookie center Jared Veldheer. Tennessee will play its back seven in coverage almost exclusively and force Campbell to check down or throw into coverage.
6. Stafford will throw more TD passes than Cutler. Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford has plenty of weapons in Detroit’s two-tight end set, a reliable run game and the ability to check down to the open man. Bears coordinator Mike Martz’ pass-oriented system features five- and seven-step drops that will expose Jay Cutler to an improved Lions front four. Look for Stafford to win this QB matchup.
7. Bradford will take a beating. Everyone has been impressed by Rams rookie Sam Bradford, but he hasn’t seen a real NFL defense yet — and neither has his line. Expect Cardinals coordinator Bill Davis to use an expanded blitz package, bringing pressure from different spots on every snap. With rookie Rodger Saffold at left tackle and disappointing Jason Smith at right tackle, it will be a long afternoon for Bradford.
8. It'll be a tough start for Kolb. Kevin Kolb will find out quickly it’s not easy to replace a legend. In Andy Reid's pass-heavy offense, Kolb won't be able to make decisions as quickly as predecessor Donovan McNabb, which will put additional pressure on his line. Look for the Packers to use multiple pressure looks that will have Kolb on the ground much of the day.
9. The Jets won't fly. Yes, the Jets' defense is good, but the offense is a concern. New York had the top rushing game in the league last year but sent two of its key pieces — running back Thomas Jones and guard Alan Faneca — packing. Too much is expected of Mark Sanchez, and there’s too much pressure on the defense to carry the load against a balanced Ravens offense. The tabloids will be screaming in New York on Tuesday morning.
10. Cassel will come alive. Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel has shown steady improvement, and he has a nice group of weapons in the passing game. The team also has a legitimate rushing duo in Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles. If those two can force an eighth defender into the box, look for coach Todd Haley to put the game in Cassel’s hands. Expect the Chiefs to hang with San Diego's high-powered offense and pull out an upset.

Brady, Kraft speak on contract extension

Vikings jersey

A day after finalizing a four-year, $72 million contract extension that made Tom Brady(notes) the highest-paid player in the NFL, both the quarterback and Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft released statements on Saturday expressing their pleasure in completing the deal.
Brady said, "I have never been comfortable talking about my contract and certainly didn't want discussions of my contract negotiations to serve as a distraction to any of my teammates as we have been preparing for the Cincinnati Bengals and the start of football jerseys

The Tampa Bay Rays have been very successful when facing teams from their own division, but recent struggles against two AL East foes have caused them to lose ground in the division.
The Rays will try to bounce back after losing their last two series cheap nfl jerseys
when they open a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.
While Tampa Bay (84-55) has a comfortable 6 1/2-game lead over Boston in the wild-card race, it still is eying a division title. The Rays trail the first-place Yankees by 2 1/2 games with the clubs set to open a three-game series Monday at Tropicana Field.
Tampa Bay will try to build some momentum heading into that pivotal series after losing four of five. After losing a series at last-place Baltimore, the Rays dropped two of three in Boston, falling 11-5 in Wednesday’s finale. They led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the second, but the Red Sox rallied behind five home runs.
“We got off to a pretty good start, but it kind of went dead for the rest of the game, but that?’s baseball, that happens,?” B.J. Upton(notes) told the Rays?’ official website.
The series losses dropped Tampa Bay to 35-24 against the AL East.
However, the Rays haven’?t been quite as successful against Toronto (72-68), going 8-7 versus the Blue Jays. They won two of three in the most recent series, Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at home.
James Shields(notes) (13-12, 4.92 ERA) will take the mound Friday for the Rays, trying a second time to match a career high in wins, set in 2008.
He gave up six runs and eight hits in 4 1-3 innings of Indianapolis Colts jersey
an 8-4 loss to the Orioles on Saturday, snapping a personal three-game winning streak.
The right-hander had similar struggles against Toronto on Aug. 7, allowing eight runs and nine hits in four innings of a 17-11 loss. That dropped him to 1-3 with a 5.67 ERA in five career starts at Rogers Centre.
“Hopefully I?’ll do better than my last outing,?” Shields said. “?I feel pretty confident right now. … I?’m looking forward to pitching against Toronto. We?’re in a nice little race right now.?”
The Blue Jays are coming off a four-game split at home against West-leading Texas, losing 4-2 Thursday night.
Toronto was limited to three total three runs and 11 hits in the final two contests after recording 15 runs and 20 hits in the first two. Jose Bautista(notes) hit his major league-leading 44th homer and Lyle Overbay(notes) also went deep Thursday, extending the Blue Jays’ streak of 11 straight games with at least one homer.
Brett Cecil(notes) (12-7, 3.76) will try to beat the Rays for the fourth time this season when he takes the ball for the Blue Jays.
The left-hander is 3-1 with a 2.63 ERA against Tampa Bay this year. He beat them in his first three attempts in 2010 before allowing five runs - two earned - and five hits over seven innings of a 6-2 road loss Aug. 30.
Cecil, though, bounced back with a solid outing at Yankee Stadium on Dallas Cowboys jersey
Sunday, yielding three runs over 6 1-3 innings of a 7-3 victory.

The Braves, looking to turn things around after a poor road trip knocked them out of first place in the NL East, jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning. But the Cardinals rocked Jair Jurrjens(notes) (7-5) for five runs in the second - capped by Schumaker’s two-out, two-run drive - and Atlanta took its sixth loss in eight games.

No longer part of the plan in Philadelphia, J.A. Happ(notes) could have a promising future in Houston.
The left-hander looks to win his fourth nfl jersey
straight start while trying to help the Astros earn a sixth consecutive home victory and hand the Los Angeles Dodgers a season-high seventh loss in a row Friday night.
Happ (6-2, 2.86 ERA) went 12-4 with a 2.93 ERA during a breakout 2009 season with Philadelphia, but missed three months this season with a forearm strain. The Phillies then traded Happ to Houston for ace Roy Oswalt(notes) on July 29, and he has not disappointed.
Happ has given up more than three runs once while going 5-2 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts for Houston (67-73).
“Every time he goes out there he gives us a chance to win,” Hunter Pence(notes) told the Astros’ official website.
He has allowed four runs and 13 hits over 22 1-3 innings to win his last three starts.
“I’m starting to get dialed in more and more as each outing goes with the command,” said Happ, who threw a scoreless two-thirds of an inning of relief in his only appearance against the Dodgers last season.
He will try to help the Astros to a fourth straight victory after Chris Johnson’s(notes) three-run homer in the sixth inning highlighted a 3-2 win Thursday over the Dodgers. Houston has won 14 of 18 overall, and 15 of 19 at Minute Maid Park.
Though Johnson is batting .225 over his last 11 games, he is 5 for Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
14 with two homers and five RBIs in his last four contests.
Pence went 1 for 3 on Thursday and is hitting .395 during a 10-game hitting streak.
Los Angeles (69-72) had won four in a row against Houston before dropping its sixth straight Thursday. The Dodgers have lost 10 of 12 and continue to fade from playoff contention.
Andre Ethier’s(notes) two-run homer was one of four hits Thursday for Los Angeles, which has totaled nine runs and hit .173 during the six-game skid. The All-Star outfielder is 4 for 29 in his last nine games, but a lifetime .353 hitter with four homers against the Astros.
Hiroki Kuroda(notes) (10-12, 3.39) looks to continue his success versus Houston when he takes the ball for the Dodgers on Friday.
The right-hander is 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA in four starts against the Astros. He allowed three runs in six innings of a 7-3 home win May 18.
After giving up one hit and striking out seven in 7 2-3 innings of Dallas Cowboys jersey
a 3-0 win over Philadelphia on Aug. 30, Kuroda allowed three runs and struck out eight in eight innings of a 3-0 loss to San Francisco on Sunday.
“It always helps to have run support,” Kuroda said. “But I’m out there to do my job and that’s what I’m going to do, no matter what situation I’m in. Even without run support, my job is to win the game.”

Goalkeeper Narazaki retires from Japan team

Colts jersey

TOKYO, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Goalkeeper Seigo Narazaki has called time on his Japan career after earning 77 caps and being selected to four World Cup squads.
The 34-year-old played his final international game in football jerseys
Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Guatemala in Osaka.
“I’ve been planning it since the World Indianapolis Colts jersey
Cup but didn’t have the chance to announce it because Japan were still looking for a new coach,” Narazaki told reporters.
Narazaki was a starter for Japan at the 2002 World Cup on home soil and had been a regular before losing his place to Eiji Kawashima at this year’s finals in South Africa.
“I went to four World Cups and have been part of Dallas Cowboys jersey
the Japan squad since I was 20,” Narazaki added. “Unless the country suddenly runs out of goalkeepers my decision is final.”

Benzema awakes from slumber to lift flagging France

Colts jersey

PARIS, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Karim Benzema seemed like a man bogged down by too many problems of his own to come to the rescue of a demoralised France team.
The 22-year-old forward has struggled to adapt life at Real Madrid since joining them last season, was overlooked for the World Cup and then placed under judicial investigation on suspicion of nfl jerseys
soliciting sex with an under-age prostitute.
Once regarded as the nation’s brightest prospect, Benzema has also heard new club manager Jose Mourinho question his dedication and new France coach Laurent Blanc criticise his diet as his efforts on the pitch could not equal his obvious talent.
Blanc is in desperate need fresh blood to reshape a team in tatters after a disastrous World Cup but could not pick Benzema for France’s opening Euro 2012 qualifier, an embarrassing 1-0 home defeat by Belarus, because he was nursing an ankle injury.
On Tuesday, however, Benzema was fit and started France’s second Group D game against Bosnia in Sarajevo, well aware of the gravity of expectation resting on his young shoulders.
He was more than equal to the task and played an outstanding match, putting France on track for a 2-0 win with a splendid goal as he made life almost impossible for the Bosnia defence throughout.
IMPORTANT PLAYER
Blanc was both delighted and relieved.
“Karim is an important player,” the man who took over from Raymond Domenech after the World Cup told reporters.
“He’s one of those players who has enough Indianapolis Colts jersey
potential to score at any time and we don’t have many of those,” the 1998 world champion added. “Having him up front is a boost for us and hurts the confidence of our opponents.”
One match alone is not enough to talk about a renaissance, and that goes for France as well as for Benzema, who needs to repeat that sort of performance and also to secure a place in the first team at Real Madrid, which is easier said than done.
His display on Tuesday, however, was a ray of hope.
“This was the most important goal I ever scored,” Benzema, who now has nine goals in 29 appearance, told reporters. “It’s always a pleasure to score in that type of match, even more because so much was expected from France and myself.”
Benzema, who grew up admiring Brazil’s Ronaldo, studying his every move on tape, has the power and skills to emulate his model, as long as he stops also copying his off-field antics.
“I am 22 and I know I have Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
everything to prove if I am to have a great career for France,” he said
